Coming Up in February ’11

February…now there’s a goddamned MONTH.  The little month that could, all jam-packed with more great stuffs that the last two months, and it’s got less days to fuck around with even.  Go February!  Don’t take any shit from July, you hear me?  You’re the man.

Right off the bat, we got week two of UNDERCURRENTS at the GCTC, which means three more wicked shows…MY PREGNANT BROTHER, SPENT, and the return (booyah!) of THIS IS A RECORDING.  Last seen at the Ottawa ‘08 Fringe and NOT TO BE MISSED. In fact, don’t miss any of ‘em.  They all run variously from the 2nd thru the 6th.  And run downstairs and catch STRAWBERRIES IN JANUARY while you’re at it.  It plays until the 13th, because fuck Valentine’s Day.  Am I right?

From the 1st to the 12th at the Ron Maslin, the Kanata Players put on Norm Foster’s JENNY’S HOUSE OF JOY for a mere 15 bucks a pop.  Over at the NAC, Waawaake Fobister’s AGOKWE hits their studio space from the 1st to the 12th as well, tickets at about $40.  A little later, family-friendly TALES OF THE MOON has a quick run on the 20th and 21st only, a steal at $14.

A couple I’m personally very excited about…Fringe overlord Natalie Joy Quesnel directs the French Euripedes adaptation IPHEGENIE EN TAURIDE at Academic Hall ( or Salle Academique…I should really be practicing)from 8th to 11th.  It sounds fantastic, and only 15 bones, so get your french on and go!

At Arts Court, Evolution Theatre brings their own adaptation (English, this time, and a premiere in that language) of LITTLE MARTYRS to town from the 9th-19th.  Tickets $25, with an insanely awesome cast (Margo Mac!  Brad Long!  Nancy Kenny!!) and a stellar track record of great shows.  Run, don’t walk, folks.  Trust me.

The long awaited debut of Plosive Productions hits the Gladstone Theatre (not dead yet!) on the 10th thru to the 26th with their adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST.  A classic by folks who know classic.  Go see it.

Sock’n’Buskin is putting a FESTIVAL OF ONE-ACT COMEDIES at Carleton U from the 2nd thru 5th, and it sounds like a good time.  Over at Algonquin they start their season off with THAT SUMMER from the 9th-12th.

My Alma Mater the Ottawa School of Speech and Drama hosts New Ottawa Repertory’s SINS OF THE MOTHER from the 4th-6th and 12th-13th.  And the Ottawa Little Theatre puts on Norm Foster’s THE LONG WEEKEND from the 8th thru 26th.  I’m kinda eager for this one, actually…and is Norm Foster ever hogging the spotlight this month.

Third Wall is having their delayed fundraiser reading of MURDER IN THE CATHEDRAL on the 25th at the St.James church at 650 Lyon.  It’s $40, but for a good cause, and a great show with a stellar cast.  And I would be remiss if I did not also mention the latest CRUSH IMPROV ‘BOUT TIME show at the Elmdale…the Neighbourhood returns to defend their title!  Feb 7th, I’ll see you there, won’t I?

So that’s it as far as I can tell, and that’s a lot.  I’ve noticed that most of the shows are jammed into the first two weeks.  What, did the second half of February fart or something?  Spread the love, people!

But, I’m wandering into Denis Armstrong territory here, and will away.  Lots of great stuff, get out and see it.  Oh, and a quick aside…I’m looking to make my theatrical links section on my main wall as complete as can be, so if you spot a link that’s not included, feel free to drop me a line, okay?  Sweet.  Peace, love and soul to you all,

The Visitor (and Winston)
